SUSTAINABILITY

Hello, this is Roko.  Some of you may have noticed that I have highlighted the sustainability of my products on the product pages.  I would like to talk a little more about that.  In fashion, a focus on sustainability may be interpreted as limiting waste anywhere within the lifecycle of a garment, from conception to manufacturing to usage to disposal.  Here are a few ways that Captivation by Roko tries to achieve sustainability.

Design - I design clothing so that the sizes are more flexible and accommodating to more body types and sizes.  For example, my t-shirts do not have shoulder seam lines, allowing a single size of garment to lay smoothly on a variety of bodies. With fewer sizes to control, our production is simplified and waste is reduced.  Also, I try to design pieces that can be used many ways and in many looks.  Hence, one piece can be used more often.  I really enjoy that I can pack fewer items when I travel.

Materials - I select fabrics that are durable, shrink-resistant, and shape-holding even after several washing cycles.  I test them to make sure... of course following the recommended washing parameters.  When clothes hold-up longer, we will be happier with them longer and less likely to add them to the trash bin.

Manufacturing -   My main fabricator is just a short drive away from my office in Phoenix.  I can monitor quality and get quick turnaround on small orders. I do not need to order thousands of pieces at a time.  Large orders often lead to waste.  In addition, much of the fabrication methods are quite efficient.  As an example, the patterns of our garments can be nestled very tightly together, limiting wasted material.  Check the photo.
